Defensive Transition - Unicaja

There are no translations available.

After a shot, #3, #4 and #5 attack the offensive rebound and run back quickly.

They should not stop to obstruct passes.

They should stop the ball from coming up, defend between the ball and the basket, and contain any penetration from the centre court.

Quickly return towards the specific zone between the free throw line and the paint.

Do not ever allow easy baskets.

Defend the first trailer with a body check from the free throw line. Do not allow a direct cut to the basket; send them out of the paint, and continue defending “B” at the lower post.

If there is an inside pass, the defender of the second trailer must come from the paint.

DRILLS:

a)4x4 lay-ups

Eight players, divided in two sectors in two intermixed lines, one per team. Tapping the ball around, when the coach orders it, whoever gets the rebound starts the counter attack with their team, and the other team performs the defensive transition. You can start with a dribble or pass; play 4x4 at mid-court. (you can use 5x5 and with different targets).

b)4x4 + Passer.

The attackers at the baseline, moving around, exchange positions looking at P, who has the ball. The defenders, in line, with their backs to the offence.

When ordered to, P passes to any attacker, who starts the counter attack and the defenders must react to defend. (you can use 5x5 and with different targets).
