Marcus Brown has retired. I have had the pleasure, the honour and the pride to coach him, winning also an ACB League and reaching an Euroleague F4 with him but above all, I have had the honour of working with one of the players with most character and desire to win among the ones I have ever known and coached. A competitive mentality, altruistic, completely focused on the team's results, demanding almost to a level of intransigence both towards himself and any member of the team, but at the same time a good teammate, patient towards the younger players, always willing to help teammates. Among the many anecdotes of the two years spent with Marcus I remember when, at the beginning of the first year, he shot an air-ball during a game and, without anybody suggesting it, stepped out of the court to perform 5 push-ups as a way of "self-punishment". The next day, other two players took the habit: after a week all the players of the team were making 5 push-ups, always without anybody suggesting it, anytime they shot an air-ball. It was a mark of overwhelming responsibility, of humility towards the rest of the team, a memory that I carry with me, together with many other small great things of the period in which I had the luck to be working with Marcus. I take my hat off to Marcus Brown, one of the greatest of the European basketball, not only for being the Euroleague's all-time leading scorer but also for having helped many of the teammates that have played and trained with him every day to become better players, more competitive and with a tougher mentality,.
