Hi everybody, Today we have presented ourselves to the media, ready to start.
There are good vibes, the players are committed, with less pressure than last year because of a different situation from the start (the presence of the US), but with the same enthusiasm and the same ambition. When in a competition there is a team like the US, which is everyone's favourite, the situation is different for all the other good teams, including us. We will do our best to repeat, even though the formula is not helping us. Winning the gold medal is a thought that is very far from us now. What we now see is a different situation in the mental approach, we have a different perspective but as I said, with the same desire to do well. They ask me a lot about the US team: it is only one of the rivals and four years ago Spain didn’t even play against them. There was the luck to find an alternate path and do very well. They must not be a point of arrival or a target to focus on, at this point: if we will play against them we will think of them. So far we have more to focus on doing well, find a good chemistry and work on the opponents that we will face. It is difficult to know who will be leading a team full of All Stars, full of NBA starting fivers in which they play full games. With their players, the US could make three or four teams capable of winning gold, but we don’t care about that. The next weeks, trainings and friendlies will give us more clues. We want to observe the team in the first week, we are not in a rush or under any obligations and we don’t believe we will start the friendly games with the twelve players already set. The main motivation is to relive emotions and feelings of when you reach something great! Take care, Sergio |
